A Year After Typhoon Bopha - Un Año Despues Pablo

Wednesday, December 4, 20130 comments

It’s been a year now since typhoon Bopha brought unimaginable devastation in the Province of Davao Oriental, but the scar caused by the said typhoon still lingers not only in the economy of the province but also in the lives of the survivors.

In the heavily affected towns of Baganga and Cateel, according to residents despite the unparalleled support by both the Philippine Government and International Non-Government Organizations the complete recovery of these towns still has a long way to go.

Considered as the Costliest Philippine typhoon Bopha undisputedly took not only hundreds of lives, it also cost hundreds of millions in the economic sector of the affected municipalities. In the town of Cateel alone experts agree that it will take a decade before this municipally can restore its farming industry.

Majority of the GDP of Boston, Cateel and Baganga is accounted to its coco-farming. Now that this industry is paralyzed it is a huge challenge to the local governments of  these towns to not only revive its coconut industry but also to cultivate new industries to revitalize their local economies.
